- July 1948 – Joined the Army Apprentices College and commenced a three year course of study in general education and architectural draughtsmanship
- Sept 1951 – Completed apprentice training and obtained the Army Certificate of Education 1st. Class and the trade rating of Draughtsman (Arch.) AIII
- 1951 - 1952 Attended various Army courses in Field Engineering
- 1952 Posted to Chief Engineer branch GHQ Middle East as a D’man (Arch). Fayid, Canal Zone Egypt
- 1953 Posted to CRE Tripoli as D’man (Arch) in drawing office.
- 1955 Attended upgrading course to D’man (Arch) AII at RSME Chatham, was successful and posted to CRE Minden BAOR as superintending D’man.
- 1956 Posted to Chief Engineer branch drawing office Dusseldorf BAOR as senior draughtsman
- 1957 – 1958 Attended upgrading course to D’man (Civil and Constructional) AI and on Successful completion left for CRE Singapore to take up the post of chief draughtsman
- 1959 – 1961 Attended Clerk of Works course at RSME Chatham and attained a Superior standard suitable for appointment as a Clerk of Works (Construction) on the Establishment for Engineer Services
- 1961 – 1964 Posted to CRE Malacca, Malaya
- 1964 - Post to Depot Works Officer, MPBW Malacca, Malaya
- 1964 – 1966 Posted to DWO Krefeld, MPBW BAOR
- 1966 – 1968 Posted to Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Engineers Dover
- 1968 – 1971 Posted to HQ RE I (British Corps) BAOR Bielfeld
- 1971 – 1972 DCRE/DOE Nepal
- 1972 – 1974 62 CRE (Const) USA & Norway
- 1974 – 1975 UNFFI Cyprus
